Job Description:
Journeymen should be able to perform diversified electrical construction work including construction and maintenance of pole lines, power lines, and auxiliary facilities and equipment for the transmission and distribution of electricity. They do all the work from the point of generation (power plants) all the way to the customer’s meter. The lines may be on overhead structures (up to 300′). They may be in rural and metropolitan areas.
Additional Responsibilities include:
- Planning and initiating Projects
- Establishing OSHA and customer safety requirements
- Setting of Towers, Poles
- Maintaining and Repairing Overhead Distribution or Transmission Lines
- Stringing New Wire or Maintaining Old Wire
- Installing and Maintaining insulators
- Installing and Maintaining Transformers and Other Equipment
- Assembly and Erection of Substation
- Use of Tools
Skills & Abilities
- Must be able to trouble-shoot lines with skill. Must also be capable of performing the duties of a Groundman to Apprentice.
- Must know how to set and remove poles, install and remove cross-arms and pins, place and remove electrical conductors, place and remove transformers, and other work functions related to the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission networks.
- Must have an understanding of basic and advanced electrical principles, possess a working knowledge of customer’s specifications, be proficient in all phases of line construction, be capable of operating equipment necessary to complete jobs, including bucket trucks and digger derricks.
Physical Demands
Must be able to climb poles and lift in excess of 50 pounds. Must be capable of performing all duties with reasonable ease. Pre-employment drug screen test is mandatory.
Education and/ or Work Experience:
- High school graduate or GED certificate preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a CDL Class A driver’s license.
- Must have a full complement of lineman’s tools.
- Must have full knowledge of all safety practices and procedures necessary to ensure that jobs are performed safely.
